Resuming the day at 87-2, having just lost captain Alistair Cook the evening before, Ben Duckett popped up a simple catch when attempting a sweep to fall for a duck, and Moeen Ali didn't last much longer as the tourists slipped to 101-4.

After that, the world class spinning bowling of Ravichandaran Ashwin (3-52) and debutant Jayant Yadav (3-30) combined with a fifth day pitch was enough to roll the tourists over.

It was, however, England's third longest fourth innings in India in terms of overs when they lost their final wicket after 97.3 overs played.

But they will have problems ahead of the third test, Stuart Broad has dealt with a foot injury since early on day one and may be ruled out, while the form of Duckett has brought criticism of his technique especially against the off-spin of Ashwin.

If the two are rested, their likely replacements would come in the form of Chris Woakes and Jos Buttler. Buttler, however had not played much red ball cricket of late so will come in with little form to speak of.

As the tourists regroup ahead of the third test, they will take confidence in the fact that they have taken both games to the final day, and could have even had a test win for themselves had it not been for Virat Kohli.
