Roy Hodgson announces squad for Germany and Netherlands friendlies
Danny Drinkwater is called up for the first time in an England squad that looks to make a positive impact before the eagerly anticipated 2016 European Championships in France.
The 26 year old has been a key player in the surprising rise of Leicester, still top of the premier league with just 8 games to go.
"What he's done has been evident to everybody," said Hodgson of Drinkwater. "He's had a fantastic season, but even last year we were aware of him."
Wayne Rooney isn't included as he continues his recovery from a knee injury and there was no place for Leighton Baines or Kieran Gibbs. Hodgson instead going for Ryan Bertrand and Danny Rose at left back.
England squad
Goalkeepers: Jack Butland, Fraser Forster, Joe Hart.
Defenders: Ryan Bertrand, Gary Cahill, Nathaniel Clyne, Phil Jagielka, Danny Rose, Chris Smalling, John Stones, Kyle Walker.
Midfielders: Dele Alli, Ross Barkley, Eric Dier, Danny Drinkwater, Jordan Henderson, Adam Lallana, James Milner, Raheem Sterling.
Forwards: Harry Kane, Daniel Sturridge, Jamie Vardy, Theo Walcott, Danny Welbeck.
