England Women vs Bangladesh Women

The women's T20 world cup started today for England women, comprehensively beating Bangladesh women by 36 runs

The 2009 winners made 153-7 from their 20 overs, owing to captain Charlotte Edwards who made an impressive 60, then restricted the unfancied Bangladeshis to 117-6.

Anya Shrubsole took 2-27 from her four overs and Katherine Brunt only went for 17 in an average performance for some people's favourites for the title.

Nat Sciver hit 27 as England recovered from 71-3, putting on 47 with her captain as England set a total well above anything Bangladesh had scored before - 115 was their previous highest score.

However the Bangladeshis did take some positives, Nigar Sultana and Salma Katun put a record 64 run stand together despite there being little chance of a victory for their side.

England head coach Mark Robinson said: "I thought we went backwards today. We were safe and we don't want to be safe. We lost our way in the middle with the bat and made poor decisions with the ball. Maybe that's a good thing, because it leaves a bit in the tank.
"We weren't bad. Six out of 10. We're going in the right direction, but today we didn't quite get to the heights.
"That's not how we said we are going to play. In the middle of the innings, you can't settle for six an over. We're better than that."
