British Cyclist fails drug test

Simon Yates, a former points race world champion, has failed an in-competition drugs test.

He tested positive for the banned substance terbutaline and a team doctor failed to apply for a T.U.E. (therapeutic use exemption).

Orica-GreenEdge said "they took full responsibility for the mistake" and there was "no wrongdoing" by Yates.

Yates is a strong contender to make the TeamGB road race squad for this summer's Rio Olympics. 

The proceedings will be managed by the sports governing body, UCI, independently according to a spokesperson form British Cycling.
