Sergio Aguero was the hero for Man City against Chelsea
After defeat at the hands of Manchester United, Aston Villa were finally relegated from the Premier league. Their 1-0 loss thanks to a Marcus Rashford goal sees them relegated from the top flight for the first time.

European Cup winners in 1982, the side have been branded one of the worst in Premier league history. After nine straight losses and only three wins all season, they were 15 points from safety with just four games left. This Villa side must prepare for life in the championship next season, playing the likes of Rotherham instead of Man City.

Newcastle boosted their survival hopes with a 3-0 win against Swansea with Andros Townsend, Moussa Sissoko and Jamaal Lascelles all on the score-sheet for the magpies.

The result leaves Newcastle three points from safety in 19th after rivals Sunderland beat Norwich to stop their run of positive results and drag them back into the relegation battle.

With a game in hand over Norwich, Newcastle will hope for a positive result against Man City on tuesday after picking up only their second clean sheet in 18 games today.

The lunchtime kick off saw Norwich host Sunderland with the away side coming away clear victors by three goals.

Fabio Borini scored a first half penalty, before Jermain Defoe scored from the Italians cross and Duncan Watmore put the third away in injury time.

Sunderland are now just a single point from safety after the result, with a game in hand over their opponents they have a good chance of pulling out of the drop zone to safety.

The evening game saw Chelsea host Champions League semi-finalists Man City, with City dominating the reigning Premier league champions, coming out 3-0 victors at Stanford Bridge.

A Sergio Aguero hat trick, with Courtois was sent off for the blues, saw a result that took City into third and Chelsea lose their second game in a row, breaking Interim manager Guus Hiddink's record that spanned back to his time at PSV Eindhoven in 2004.

Elsewhere, Everton drew 1-1 with Southampton and Watford had Heurelho Gomes to thank after he saved two West Brom penalties in their 1-0 victory at the Hawthorns.
