West Indies win to take maiden title

The West Indies won their first Womens World T20, beating Australia by 8-wickets in Kolkata.

Australia captain Meg Lanning won the toss and chose to bat, her side making 148-5 from the twenty overs. 

Elyse Villani hit the first half-century in a final, Taking on some poor bowling from the West Indies, she went to 50 from 34 balls and Lanning followed her before they both fell before the end. 

Ellyse Perry kept the scoring going however, hitting two straight sixes in her cameo worth 28. 

It was not enough though, as teenager Hayley Matthews scored a 45 ball 66 in a partnership worth 120 with her captain Stefanie Taylor. 

Matthews fell with 29 needed and Taylor was caught at point for 59, at which point the result was secure. 

It was the W'Indies first win over Australia in womens T20I and join the U19s who won their World Cup earlier this year.
