The result is a reversal of the Olympic singles semi final where Murray came out victor, going on to win gold and defend his Olympic crown.

Murray was looking to become part of an elite group to make all four grand slam finals in a year, having been runner up and the Australian and French Opens alongside his Wimbledon crown.
