Vijay and Pujara both had reprieves on the way to their centuries, the former being dropped on 66 and Pujara successfully reviewing a lbw when on 86 while putting on 209 for the second wicket.

This was after Stuart Broad trapped Gautam Gambhir with his first ball of the day to give England hope of creating an opening, but it was 67 overs before they took another wicket.

After Ben Stokes had Pujara caught at slip, Adil Rashid removed Vijay and Zafar Ansari cut Amit Mishra's stay to just two balls to give England a late boost.

Early wickets on the morning of day four, especially that of Virat Kohli who is unbeaten on 26, will give the tourists confidence of pushing for an unlikely victory.

Some tight bowling by England throughout the day by the seamers, with Broad and Stokes both picking up wickets alongside the late breakthroughs from Rashid and Ansari have given England confidence of breaking the unbeaten run that India have at home.
