Kohli and Pujara dominate day one

Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara both scored centuries on day one of the second test as they dominated England's bowling to finish 317-4.

The returning James Anderson, playing his first test since august, combined with Stuart Broad to reduce the hosts to 22-2.

But with the in-form Kohli and Pujara together, the tourists were made to toil in the field whilst the two put on 226 for the third wicket.

It took a short and wide delivery from Anderson to have Pujara caught behind for 119 but Kohli batted through to the close for an unbeaten 151.

Anderson finished the day with 3-44, but the ineffectiveness and wayward bowling from the three-prong spin attack never really allowed Alistair Cook to build pressure in the field, giving the home batsmen plenty of bad balls to score from.

Zafar Ansari was targeted early on and hit out of the attack and Moeen Ali couldn't control the flow of runs to the Indian captain and Pujara, meaning that Adil Rashid had to bear the brunt of the work, bowling 26 overs in the day - showing the trust that Cook has in his man now.

The hosts find themselves in a similar position to England in the first test, with a first innings total of well over 500 on the cards, England will have to find a way to remove Kohli early on the second morning to have any chance of staying in contention to win the match.
