Liverpool and Hull through into EFL Cup semi-finals

Liverpool beat Leeds United 2-0 at Anfield and Hull needed penalties to beat a Newcastle side that dominated.

Seventeen year old Ben Woodburn became the youngest-ever goalscorer for Liverpool as he notched the second of the two goals in the match after Divock Origi popped up to break the deadlock against an organised Leeds side.

Both sides had chances and Leeds could have been ahead when Hadi Sacko went through one-on-one but the recalled Simon Mignolet made a smart save to block his effort.

But it was Origi who poked the ball home to give his side the lead after 75 minutes and Woodburn stole the show by lashing the ball into the roof of the net just five minutes later to score his first senior goal for the club.

Hull only had three shots on target all game, but scored all three of their penalties to beat Newcastle 3-1 in the shootout after the visitors missed three of their four.

In a disappointing game of very little chances, Hull were on the defensive for much of the 90, then 120 minutes but a Robert Snodgrass goal cancelled out Mo Diame's strike in extra-time to take the sides to a penalty shoot-out.

Dieumerci Mbokani was sent off towards the end of the 90, meaning Hull had to play extra time with 10 men, but it didn't matter as they found a way to book their place in the EFL cup semi-finals for the first time.

The semi-final draw will be made tomorrow after the conclusion of Manchester United vs West Ham live on Sky Sports.
