Ravichandran Ashwin named ICC Player of the year 2016

Indian off-spinner Ashwin, 30, took the dual honor of Test player of the year as well and is the third Indian to win the award. 

The test team of the year is captained by England's Alistair Cook and includes three other Englishmen, in Joe Root, Ben Stokes and Johnny Bairstow - who now holds the record for the most runs by a wicket-keeper in tests due to his prolific 2016.

The period the awards applied to was from 14 September 2015 to 20 September 2016, so doesn't include England's 4-0 loss to India this winter.

The team also includes three Australians in David Warner, Mitchell Starc and Adam Voges, while Kane Williamson, Rangana Herath and Dale Steyn make up the XI.

South African Wicket-keeper batsman Quinton De Kock was chosen as ODI player of the year and he heads up the ODI XI with David Warner.

A trio of Indian's make this team in Virat Kohli - named as captain, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja. AB De Villiers makes the XI for the sixth time since 2010, while Jos Buttler, Mitchell Marsh, Sunil Narine and Kagiso Rabada join Mitchell Starc in filling the rest of the team.

The other awards announced were T20I Performance of the year - given to Carlos Brathwaite for his 34 from 10 balls in the T20 World Cup final, Emerging Cricketer of the year went to Mustafizur Rahman and Associate cricketer of the year was Afghanistan's Mohammad Shahzad.

Spirit of Cricket was awarded to Misbah-ul-Haq, while womens ODI and T20I cricketer of the year went to Suzie Bates of New Zealand.
