Barton banned for 18 months

Burnley Midfielder Joey Barton has been banned for 18 months after admitting an FA charge for betting. 

34 year old Barton has also been fined £30000 and warned about any future conduct after being charged for placing over 1260 bets between 26 march 2006 and 13 may 2016.

The midfielder had bet on matches in which he played but in a statement on his website he said that "this is not match fixing" and that at "no point in any of this is my integrity in question".

The ex Newcastle and Manchester City player had been given a one month ban when he was at Rangers after breaking Scottish FA rules on gambling.

He admitted to a charge of 44 bets between 1 July and 15 September of 2016, while he was registered as a player at Rangers.
