Anderson, Livingstone star in Test warm-up

James Anderson took 4 wickets and Liam Livingstone top scored with 88 as England drew their warm-up fixture against New Zealand XI.

England had decided to bowl their full 90 overs on day one and quickly had the hosts 30-5, Anderson the main culprit.

But despite the early success, wicket-keeper Tom Blundell hit back with 131 and Kyle Jamieson 101 in his 111 ball stay.

The two centurions did retire to give their top order another chance and NZ finished the day on 376.

Anderson's 4-56 showed his class while Mark Wood 2-80 and Stuart Broad 2-46 were also in the wickets.

Moeen Ali was largely ineffective however, bowling 23 overs and ending with 1-99 while Joe Root rotated his pack, giving overs to James Vince, Livingstone, Dawid Malan and himself throughout the day.

Day two started in a similar fashion, England being 33-3 then 65-5 as they struggled against the moving pink-ball in an New Zealandattack that lacked Test stars.

Mark Stoneman could only manage three runs in his two chances, while fellow opener Alistair Cook edged to 44 as he batted twice.

Only Livingstone really shone in England's innings, his 88 coming from 113 balls containing 13 fours and a six.

England finished the day with 319 and despite a good bowling performance, there will be questions over their batting line-up ahead of the day-night Test at Eden Park next Thursday.

They have another warm-up match, beginning on Friday, before the first test.
