England Cricket: Leach called up & Test series warm-up

Somerset spinner Jack Leach has been called into the England Test squad and England bowled on day one of their warm-up match.

Leach has been close to call-ups before, more prominently before England's tour of India in 2016/17.

He came back from the set-back and took 51 county championship wickets in 2017, to go with his 65 the season before.

Jack was regarded as the only player to come away from the disastrous tour of the West Indies with any credit. His 8-156 in Jamaica the best by an England Lions spinner in 19 years.

Meanwhile, England played their second warm-up before the Test series in New Zealand - selecting a team of 12 that is likely to be what the team for the First Test is selected from.

James Anderson again impressed, going at less than three an over and taking two wickets, while Stuart Broad (2-36) showed good form after a poor Ashes series.

But the day was for the spinners.

Moeen Ali (3-67) and Joe Root (3-23) both took three wickets a piece as Ali bowled a strong 21 overs in the day.

For the Kiwi's, Martin Guptill, who captained the team, top scored with 73 and Jaimeson counter-attacked with 38 from 35 balls, including two sixes.

But no one else could move past starts and England will worry that they haven't had a chance to bowl against a lot of experienced Test stars ahead of the series
