England embarassed by New Zealand

England were bowled out for 58 as New Zealand took a massive 117 run lead into day two.

Trent Boult took a career best 6-32 and Tim Southee 4-25 as the tourists capitulated on their first test since the Ashes disaster.

Things could have been worse, before number nine Craig Overton hit 33* to take his side from 27-9 to 58 all out as they become the fifth side to be bowled out before lunch on the first day of a test match.

Kane Williamson then showed his opponents how to bat on the pitch, hitting a classy 91* to guide his side into an even more commanding position.

This is England's lowest ever total against New Zealand and their sixth lowest of all time.

Meanwhile Stuart Broad took his 400th Test Wicket to join fellow opening bowler James Anderson in that club for their nation.

The innings held stunning parallels to Australia at Trent Bridge five years ago, England lasting just six balls longer than their counterparts then being ground into the dirt by a stunning innings from the oppositions best batsman.

This is likely to be their 10th defeat out of the past 12 away Tests as England crumbled within the first 90 minutes to essentially give up any chance of winning this series.

If they are to save any grace, England must come out and bowl New Zealand out for less than 250. If they don't, who knows how embarrassing it could get.
